PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to reduce a PDF below 10MB

School, company, and government websites often set a 10MB limit for PDFs. This usually allows useful scan quality, so start with recommended compression and increase it only if the result remains too large.

Before you begin

Check whether the upload form accepts ZIP files. If it only accepts PDF, a ZIP will not solve the requirement. For multiple documents, check both the per-file and total upload limits.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the PDF you need to submit.
  2. Check whether recommended compression brings it below 10MB.
  3. Only if needed, try strong compression and open the result for review.

Check the result before sharing

Inspect pages with photos, scan images, dense tables, and color stamps. Even if the output is well below 10MB, use the destination site preview when available before final submission.

Frequently asked questions

Will a PDF under 10MB always upload?

File type, page count, and the site itself can introduce other requirements, so read the recipient instructions too.

Is a ZIP more convenient?

Only if the recipient accepts ZIP. A PDF-only form needs the PDF itself to be reduced.
