GIF GUIDE

Make GIFs for free with no sign-up

Create an animated GIF from several photos, or turn a short section of a video into a GIF. Your original files are processed in your browser.

How to make a GIF from photos

  1. Add two or more JPG, PNG, or WebP photos.
  2. Drag cards to set the playback order, then choose speed and output size.
  3. Select Make GIF, then download the result.

How to convert a video to GIF

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV, or WebM video.
  2. Set the start and end times for a short clip of up to 15 seconds.
  3. Choose the size and FPS, then create the GIF.

How to make a GIF smaller

Shorter clips, smaller output sizes, and lower FPS create smaller GIF files. Use only the scene you need instead of an entire long video.

Are files uploaded to a server?

No. Images and videos are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to or stored on BaroTool servers.

GIF SIZE AND PLAYBACK

Photo GIFs and video GIFs work differently

A photo GIF encodes up to 30 JPG, PNG, or WebP images in order. A video GIF uses a selected clip up to 15 seconds from an MP4, MOV, WebM, or M4V file under 100MB.

If a GIF file is too large

A shorter clip, smaller output width, and lower FPS create a smaller file. For photo GIFs, both frame count and output width increase the result size. Keep only the moment you need for messaging or posting.

Why the first video conversion can take longer

The video GIF tool prepares a browser-based conversion engine before processing. The first use can take time to load that engine; the original video itself is read in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

How many photos can I add?

You can add up to 30 photos for one GIF.

Can I turn a whole long video into a GIF?

Video GIF clips are limited to 15 seconds. Pick the part you need to reduce both file size and processing time.

My video will not preview.

Your browser needs to support the video format. MP4 with H.264 video is the most reliable option to try.
